Skinner swallowed against her tight throat, her mind churning. What was happening to her? She felt her pants growing tight and her body responding to everything in strange ways, but she didn't believe it. She wouldn't. She refused. Skinner flopped back on the sand, staring up at the sun. How could this have happened?
It didn't, she kept telling herself. Nothing's happened. She was just stressed and that's all. The island was upsetting her stomach. And she was super bloated with an oncoming course. At least she prayed it to be so. But what if it wasn't?
Skinner swallowed, closing her eyes and stretching her arms out, like someone that looked half stranded. Wait....she was.

Claire walked (well waddled really) out of the jungle from one of her many many MANY trips to the make-shift bathroom. Every day she had to pee exponentially more than the day before. As Claire walked along the beach back to camp, an interesting sight awaited her in the sand. A pretty young woman was lying face up in the sand, looking worn out. "Hi there," Claire said. "Is something the matter?"

Skinner chuckled, but not mercilessly. More in an ironic manner.
"Nothing's wrong. I'm emotional and well...." She shook her head, and opened her eyes. "I'm Skinner." Skinner swallowed, still in denial in her mind. She couldn't be.....never. She'd been on the pill then, right? Or perhaps that was the week she'd forgotten, so stupidly. Skinner found herself tumbling in an emotional tailspin and pulled herself from it, concentrating on the very pregnant woman in front of her.

Claire smiled knowingly. "Well in that case..." She sat down in the warm sand next to the woman and stared out at the beach for a moment, then back at her stomach, slowly rolling her hand over the massive lump that was her baby. "Maybe we can be emotional together."She chuckled and rolled her eyes. "Heaven knows I got enough emotions for the both of us." She looked back at Skinner. "You sure you're alright? You look a bit green."

Skinner forced a smiled a little laugh and nodded. She felt her face pale though, and she sat up, massaging her temples. She felt that saltiness slip down her throat and she scrambled to the edge of the forest. Again. This was getting ridiculous. Perhaps the mangoes jsut didn't like her stomach. She walked back, splashing cool water onto her face.
"Sure. I'm fine...my stomach's just not liking me these days." And neither is my body. Or my mind. Or my g**d***ned period.

Claire watched, half shocked and half amused as Skinner dashed to the trees to lose her lunch.
"Ya..." Claire said as skinner sat back down next to her. "I know what you mean."
Clair looked down at her protruding pregnant belly, where her child lay. She could only think of how she hadn't felt the baby kick since the crash. How she may never have a beautiful baby to hold...
She closed her eyes and fought back tears.
"I can understand having a stomach thats upset with you." She took a shaky breath and looked back at Skinner. "You think its all the fruit? I heard Hurleys been having some...digestion... issues too." She gave a halfhearted giggle.

Skinner nodded blankly, not really hearing Claire's words. She swallowed, looking at the large pregnant belly of the woman. She looked at it, so naive to everything about it. Would she have that? Would she look like that?
Skinner shook the thoughts. She wasn't pregnant. No. Not happening.
"May I?" she asked softly and rather timidly, extending a hand as if to touch the belly. She couldnt' explain it, but she felt mesmerized by it. Which was very unlike Skinner.

Clair smiled softly at her. She couldn't have been any younger than Claire, but Claire felt so much older than this woman for some reason.
"Of course," She said, and moved her hand from her belly, giving Skinner room. Again Claire looked at her smiling.
"Though, I doubt you'll feel a kick." Claires smile faltered. She looked down at her belly sadly. "I...I haven't felt the baby kick since before the crash..." She looked back up at skinner. And I probably never will again.

Skinner cocked her head, touching the place where the woman carried her baby. And for a split second, for some strange reason, Skinner felt comforted. If it had to happen, perhaps it wouldn't be so bad. But then her denial set back ing, but she ignored it, looking at her.
"I'm sure he or she's okay. Probably just catching up on sleep since the crash. I know I've been. You know children sleep more after disasters to cope with the extra hormones?" Skinner laughed then shook her head, blushing a bit. She was always a smarty, always throwing in bits of useless info. But if it cheered, Claire up, then it was worth it.

Claire watched as Skinner tentatively put her hand on her belly. She was used to it, people wanting to put their grubby hands on her belly. But this woman...she was different. So far everyone on the island seemed to avoid Clair, like she was some ticking bomb that was about to explode at any second. But Skinner...she seemed genuinely fascinated by her baby. She smiled at her.
"I'm sure he or she's okay. Probably just catching up on sleep since the crash. I know I've been. You know children sleep more after disasters to cope with the extra hormones?"
Claire laughed. "I really hope thats true. It would sure make me feel a lot better." She giggled again and looked back at Skinner, seeking reasurance. "You really think its goona be OK?"

Skinner looked at the woman's eyes, and despite the laughter she offered, there was real fear there. Skinner nodded and for a moment, leaned down, pressing her ear to the belly. She pulled back, smiling at the woman. "I'm positive."
Skinner pulled away from the woman's stomach, sitting there and looking at her face now. She look positive glowing, her complexion beautifully flawless and with a certain air that people without child just didn't have. Skinner swallowed, knowing that, if she ever got off the island, she'd be the one giving the first shots and weighing those first babies, watching the mother's stand protectively over their sons and daughters. And what if she...she had a child? Skinner swallowed against it, sighing softly.
"I promise that he or she will be okay. Do you know what it is?" she asked, truly intrigued.

Claire giggled a little when the woman put her face by Claire's belly. She was a cutie, for sure.
"I promise that he or she will be okay. Do you know what it is?"
Claire felt truly assured by this woman. She was so sweet and reassuring, Claire almost had to believe her.
"Thanks," she said, truly grateful. She looked back up at Skinner. "And no, I don't know. At my last check-up I wanted it to be a surprise...But now..." She shrugged. "I feel like I've always been pregnant. I mean for the longest time every morning my first thought has been the baby, and every night my last thought has been the baby. I don't know what I'm going to do when I have it." She paused and looked back down. "Knowing weather its a boy or girl would just make it too real, you know?" She shrugged.

Skinner chuckled softly and nodded, though she didn't know. What if...God she had to stop those thoughts. She swallowed, and looked at the woman, a smile still on her lips.
"You sound like you're going to be a great mother," Skinner said softly. She absently slipped a hand to her abdomen, then winced. Not from the bruises this time on her ribs, but from the fact that she felt the pudge. She felt it. And that terrified her. Suddenly her mind was flooded with thousands of thoughts. What if that last fight had harmed it, if it really was in there? She shuddered visibly, and felt her face burn. Her brow furrowed lightly, and she swallowed, looking back at Claire.

Claire smiled back at Skinner.
"You sound like you're going to be a great mother,"
Claire opened her mouth to thank her, but stopped when she noticed Skinner putting a hand on her bally and looking at it with fear. Claire smiled knowingly. She knew that look. That was the look she had given her own stomach when she had realized there was life growing down there. That was the look a pregnant soon-to-be mother gave her unborn child.
"So," she said, the smile evident in her voice. "How long have you known?"

Skinner looked over and shook her head. She bit her lip, attempting to move her hand, but she couldn't. She was pregnant, and someone she'd always known. For some God-forsaken reason, she knew that it would happen and she knew that it would happen.
"I....I just put it altogether yesterday actually. But I've missed three," she said in a quiet, terrified voice. 3 months. how could she have not seen through everything, but she sighed. Perhaps this was that sign God aimed for her. That sign that showed her what life was meant to be, other than putting up with an abusive fiance.
