Juliet Burke sat on her front porch reading. She was reading a Stephen King novel that she borrowed from Ben. The novel wasn’t all that interesting, but it was something to do on this godforsaken island. Reading was the only pleasure Juliet had nowadays since they closed operation on all medical proceedings. Juliet enjoyed her work and couldn’t believe that after the death of Sabine. They had to shut-down operations. She sighed. She missed back home. She wanted to see her nephew and sister again. She wondered if they missed her at all.
Juliet closed the book she was reading and placed it on the floor next to her as she placed her blond hair into a ponytail. The blond gazed around the little community of yellow houses shaking her head. She missed Goodwin. She wanted Goodwin. He was the only one who wasn’t crazy on this damn island, but what did she know. She was on this damn island for three years and nothing out of the ordinary had changed. Expect for the fact that a plane crashed on the island and that rumors were going around that a pregnant women was on the airplane.
She needed this. She needed to figure out this fertility crisis and than she could go home. And forget this land of hell.

Ben walked across the green lawn that served almost as a quad for their small community. If Ben had ever heard of it, he would have thought it looked like something out of The Stepford Wives. Alas, he had not. He was making his way over to Juliet's house. Lovely Juliet. She had been trying hard, and perhaps he had been to hard on her. But today was a new day, and brought a possible chance for redemption.
He spied her on her porch and saw he was reading the novel he had given her, a Stephen King book called The Stand. He thought she would enjoy it if she gave it a chance, although it was rather long. It too, was about redemption and new starts. It was also about death.
Ben reached the bottom step and called up to her, though not loudly, he didn't want people to overhear until he was absolutely sure about all this. He hoped Juliet's presence would help him sort things out. It always had before.
"Juliet, may we speak inside please?"

Juliet heard a familiar voice and looked up to see who it was. It was Ben. She sighed and decided that she would be polite to him. She stood up from where she was sitting and nodded in agreement as she picked up the novel that she was given by him.
“Certainly, Ben” She replied as she went over and opened the front door of her house. She whipped her feet on the floor mat that was outside the door and motioned for Ben to follow her in. She wondered what Ben wanted to talk about. It hoped it wasn’t anything terrible. Juliet stood by the door holding it open as she awaited Ben to come into her house.
She smiled.

"I'm sure you've heard about what's been happening. The crash and all of that. The whispers of gossip travel quickly, especially in smaller villages, I'm afraid. So I'm sure you've heard the rumors of Claire Littleton, a young pregnant Australian woman just about ready to give birth." Ben gave Juliet an appraising look before continuing on. "She's very far along, about eight months, further than anyone here... well. I think she'll be useful. I'm having her taken as soon as possible."
He sat and waited for her response, wondering how she would take the news. Surely it was not the same, Ben had no doubt the delivery would be fine, as the baby was conceived off island, but perhaps this success could bring more hope to Juliet's project. At least until they got a new subject.
