Later that day, after the incident in the jungle, Boone sat against a tree, but the shade didn't really help much, only kept the sunburn at bay. The group had walked out of the jungle and noticed that people would hiding under shelter from the rain. Some of the survivors were suprised, thinking that if you went into the jungle and didn't come out after an hour or so, you were either taken by the island natives or dead. Truthfully, Boone though they were all toast the moment the polar bear noticed them. Now though, he sat in the not very helpful shade, watched the tide of the ocean. He remembered how on the 5th day there, he tried to save a woman, but she drowned, course he almost drowned himself. He heard someone walking near his direction and looked up. "Hey"

The heat was so oppressive, that Hurley almost couldn't stand it. He figured he should be used to this by now, having grown up in Santa Monica where it wasn't exactly cool most of the time. However, back home they had a little invention called the air conditioner, whereby the air in most rooms of buildings was kept a more minimal temperature, and dealin with this sort of heat was never necessary. At first he thought it wouldn't be so bad, being here on a tropical island. The plane was beautiful after all, like their own private paradise. However, as time wore on, Hurley was beginning to see the many problems with a place like this, the most prominant of which was the high temperature.
Hurley made his way slowly across the beach on the edge of the treeline, hoping to at least be in the shade a bit more than he would otherwise. He didn't really have a destination, since there wasn't really any to be had here. He felt like a lot of the other survivors had jobs. Jack was the doctor, making sure everyone was in good health; Jin was the fisherman, Locke was the hunter, etc. But Hurley was beginning to feel a bit left out in that he did not have a duty like the rest of them. No one wanted his help, because, well, he was a big guy. Everyone seemed to underestimate him, and he was bored and tired of not feeling as though he had a purpose.
As he walked, he heard a voice greeting him and turned about, searching for the source of the noise. Hugo quickly spotted a young man sitting in the shade, probably trying to escape from the heat like everyone else. "Oh, hey dude," hurley replied heavily. "It's... Boone, right?"

"Right, Hurley right?" Boone answered back, his pack, the firewood and the axe still lay there, Boone then noticed that he started to get sunburned, "great, just great" he muttered "Did you know theres polar bears on this place, a bunch of us encountered one, course yet again, someone shoots it and we're all saved, then I blab all of me and my step-sisters secrets out in the open and now I'm such an idiot and I'm just sitting here with a large possibility of skin cancer for the last 25 minutes!" Boone finished, his voice getting higher at the end.

Hurley nodded to the affirmative when Boone checked to make sure he had the right name. Hurley seemed to be pretty distinguishable from the others survivors. After all, a name like Hurley was pretty different and original, not likely to be confused with anyone else. And to top things off, Hugo's other rather distinguishable characteristic was that he was quite a heavy fellow, and much larger than most of his fellow survivors. Between his name and his physical attributes, it was hard to mistake him for anyone else. Unless of course, you didn't know who he was at all.
Boone began to speak rapidly, his words tumbling out in a rush of sounds that Hurley could hardly make sense of something. Something about polar bears, idiots, and skin cancer? He frowned, trying to make sense of what Boone was saying. Stupid polar bears with sun burns? No, that couldn't be right, that was just silly. "Dude, slow down, I can't think as fast as you talk." Hurley said with a slight chuckle. He decided that while he was here and talking, he might as well take a seat and relax. At least it was a few degrees cooler here in the shade, and Hurley was always up for having company. He lowered himself to the ground slowly, leaning his back up against the trunk of a palm tree.
When he was settled comfortably, he leaned back, and then looked over at Boone again. "Now, this time more slowly. What's this about polar bears?" Of all the words he'd just heard come tumbling out of Boone's mouth, the phrase "polar bears" had been the most interesting to him. After all, they were on a tropical island, the farthest place from a polar bear habitat anyone could possibly get. Not to mention, it was blazing hot out. So thinking about polar bears and the arctic and snow might be a nice mental image.

Boone sighed loudly and then slowly said "I was hunting for boar, when 3 of the other survivors and my step-sister happened to find me. At first, it was just me, Skinner, and Nikki, then a polar bear had smelt the blood of the boar i'd just killed and we ran for it. Then Chris came and found a gun on the ground and went up in a tree and shot the bear twice. Shannon ran over when she heard the shots, cause she was worried and soon the 2 of us had a big fight and here we are right here. I'm gonna look like a lobster in an hour's time because of the sun" After the explanation, Boone felt a little better now that he'd finally said everything.

Hurley felt dazed trying to keep up with Boone's story. Even though this time he explained things in a bit more detail, he still seemed to talk awfully fast, and Hurley was more of a laid-back kind of guy who wasn't used to having to take in this much information at once. Still, at least Boone was talking more slowly and clearly this time, with a little more patience. All this talk about running and killing and wild animals was making Hurley a little bit uncomfortable, though, and he shifted around where he sat, perterbed.
"So, wait a second. There are polar bears... here.... on a tropical island?" Hurley gave Boone a quizzical look, quite clearly confused. Polar bears, he was fairly certainly, only lived in cold places like the Arctic... or the Antarctic. They didn't just randomly appear on deserted islands in the Pacific Ocean, or wherever they were. They couldn't live in this type of heat. Hurley could hardly live in this type of heat, and he was a hot weather mammal, so to speak. "But... how?"He paused. And guns? Chris just happened to pick up a gun off the ground and shoot stuff with it. "Where'd the gun come from?" He asked curiously, not really liking the idea of random guns lying around for anyone to pick up and use. What if there were more, and people got a hold of them and went crazy? Someone could get hurt, or killed.
