Overall Personality:
John Locke is a man, who was paralyzed by his conman-father and was forced to sit in a wheelchair. While in hospital, a strange man told him to go on a walkabout. Locke was extremely sceptical, but did it anyway. In Sydney, he was told he couldn't go on a walkabout so he flew back to the U.S.. or that was the plan.
After the crash, Locke miraculously got the feeling back to his legs and was able to walk again. Because of this, he is very interested in the Island and the secrets it has. Locke likes to walk around the woods and hunt; as well as making new friends. He doesn't want to take the leader's position, he lets Jack take care of that. In the other hand, when things aren't right in his opinion, he will say it out loud. Sometimes his opinions may be too radical for others to handle.
Background[/u]
Family Members:
Mrs. Locke - Maternal Grandmother
Anthony Cooper - Father
Emily Locke - Mother
Florence - Former Foster Mother
Melissa - Former Foster Sister
Jeannie - Former Foster Sister
(unknown) - Former Foster Brother
Bea Jones - Great Aunt
Reason for Being in Sydney: To participate in a walkabout tour out of Melbourne.
Reason for Flying to LA: To return home after being denied.
Character History:
Locke was born to a young girl named Emily, who got hit by a car before he was born. At the hospital, she gave birth to John. She later decided she couldn't take care of the child, so he was adopted by a woman named Florence, who had three kids of her own. When he was five years old, Mr. Alpert came to their home to test if John was ready for his special "school". After the test, Alpert left and John didn't see him again.
Locke was bullied in school because of his love for science. He decided to give up those kind of things, in order to be left alone. He received an offer from Mittelos Laboratories to come to their "summer camp", but he declined. His teacher told him that he couldn't do anything else but science, but John told him not to tell him what he can't do.
Many years later John was reunited with his mother, who claimed that he didn't have a father. The disbelieving John hired a private eye, who returned with information about his father, who was alive. John visited his father, Anthony, and the two became close. One day Anthony revealed that he had a kidney failure. John agreed to donate his other kidney to his father. Anthony left the hospital immediately after the operation, disappearing from John's life. His mother then confessed that it had all been part of Anthony's plan to get a kidney.
Later John had a relationship with a woman named Helen. His father appeared again. He told him that he had conned some thugs out of a lot of money, faked his own death, and hidden the money in a bank account which he required assistance in accessing. In return for Locke's aid, he would give his son $200,000 of the money. Locke did this and was later visited by two men and was asked about the money. He told them he didn't know anything about it, and he told Helen the same. But Helen found out about his involvement with the money. She turned down Locke's proposal, leaving him on bended knee in the car park of his father's motel.
Some time after this, John joined a drug commune. He didn't stay there for long, though. Having been conned by his father, turned down by the woman he loved, and losing the closest thing to a real family that he ever had, Locke became deeply depressed and began to see a therapist and receive insurance. John found out about his father's plans of another con, and after a related murder, he went to see Anthony. They talked, and then suddenly his father pushed him through the window. John fell eight stories and got paralyzed from the waist down. He was forced to sit in a wheelchair.
Sometime after his accident, Locke worked in a box company, but was treated poorly. He refused to accept that his disability would affect his life. After talking to a man in the hospital, he decided to go on a walkabout in Australia. He was not allowed to go on the trip, because of his wheelchair. He had no choise but to leave and go back to the States, on Oceanic flight 815..
