Jack had walked in to the camp and asked for volunteers. There had been only one, a younger man whom Jack hadn't met yet. That made four. Besides the pair of them, Jack had invited along Goodwin and Kate, who had both accepted. They had loaded up their packs with a couple bottles of water and an airline meal each and then set off in the direction they thought the front of the plane might lie.
They made their decision based on trajectories as well as the path of airline debris that lay scattered throughout the jungle. They walked next to each other when possible, although at times the dense foliage interfered. For the most part Jack tried to stay close to Kate. He wanted to make sure she was ok, and enjoyed talking to her, although Goodwin was good for a laugh too. He was a pretty engaging guy, and Jack figured he'd be good in a pinch if a wild animal or something attacked. In any case, Jack was glad to have him along. The other one he didn't know all that well and so really couldn't pass any sort of judgment on him.
As Jack continued to walk he looked to his left amongst the trees and then to the right. He stopped dead in his tracks as he did. His father was standing there, clear as day now, staring right back at him, unlike the fruitless chase he had been on earlier. Jack closed his eyes and shook his head hard, looking again. His dad was gone, replaced by empty ground and a falling leaf or too.
I am seeing things, he thought. He was shocked at himself. He had never had issues like this before. It made no sense. He wasn't sleeping great, certainly not as well as Kate, but he was sleeping. He had been eating fine, although the danger of no food was looming on the horizon. He shouldn't be hallucinating, especially not so vividly. He shook off the weird feeling that had overcome his body and turned to continue walking, hoping no one had noticed.

Kate had found new clothes, a bit of food and water, and a few hours sleep, this time near a tree and not in Jack's lap, which was not nearly as comfortable, but much less embarrassing. She laughed slightly as she slung the army green backpack over her shoulders that held some of the supplies for the trip to the find the nose of the plane. They headed out under the morning sun with the intention of helping their delayed rescue along. Kate gave a passing glance to the sleeping Sawyer as she passed him on the beach and followed Jack and two men she'd just been introduced to.
The boys had made some sound calculations in regards to where it most likely would be recovered, Kate couldn't find fault in their logic so she was happy to follow. Kate tipped her aching face to the sun for a bit as they walked, again content to trade bits and pieces of conversation with Jack and the others. She tried not to think of the marshal, his broken body or the handcuffs in his pocket, she instead filled her mind with Jack's voice and what would happen if the transceiver didn't work. Kate was good at taking things apart, but the putting back together was much more difficult, but maybe someone else on the island was good at that sort of thing.
Kate took a small drink from her water bottle, and then turned to offer it to Jack who was a pace or two behind standing as still as a statue. She couldn't quite see his face because he had turned to the side, but it seemed like he was definitely looking at something. Before she could call his name, he had turned and caught up. " You okay Jack," she asked quietly as he once again cast a shadow over her smaller frame.

Dammit, the one person he cared about being embarrassed in front of was the only one who had seen him. He turned and caught up with her. She asked under her breath so as not alert the others if all was ok. He nodded and replied he was fine, not daring to say another word about what he saw. Not until he knew what was wrong. He could fix other people, he should be able to fix himself. He walked quicker, making Kate have to nearly jog if she wanted to keep up.
"Let's just get there as quick as we can. I want to be back to the beach before nightfall. Hell, I want to be off this island by nightfall." He smiled and laughed, looking at Kate and finally slowing a bit, realizing they might be leaving the others behind. He was continuing to follow the trail of baggage, seeing a teddy bear here and a shirt there, picking up anything that might be useful and storing as much as he could in his pack. In some of the carry on bags he had found meds, which would be good if any of their owners were alive back on the beach.
Or if anyone else got hurt before rescue. That thing last night sounded like it was capable of some major damage. What the hell was that anyways? He turned to Kate and opened his mouth to ask her what she thought, then closed it again, but in the end, decided his curiosity overwhelmed any worry about arising new fear in her. "What do you think that sound was last night Kate? The thing out here in the jungle. What do you think it was?"

Goodwin packed up a backpack he had taken from the wreckage and put a bottle of water in there. He didn't need a lot, he'd done similar journeys a lot of the time. Getting to The Tempest was a three mile walk from The Barracks which he'd done every morning. He walked over to Jack and who he figured must be Kate.
"What do you think that sound was last night Kate? The thing out here in the jungle. What do you think it was?" he overheard Jack say.
"Probably just a boar or something." he said, interrupting. Telling them it was a creature made of black smoke would either give him away, or let them know he was crazy. "So, are we ready to go?" he asked, trying to change the subject.

Charlie didn't bring anything for the trip they were going to make. Well, he hadn't thought of bringing anything since he had nothing. He figured if he was thirsty maybe one of the others could lend him some of their water. Charlie had no idea who he was traveling with. He had seen the man and woman before but never the older man. Although Charlie didn't judge him. "Nightfall...in this jungle?" He said more to himself than them. It was a scary thought considering Charlie didn't even have any to defend himself with. Who knew what was inside the jungle?
Catching up to them, Charlie listened in on their conversation about the thing that had stomped through the jungle last night. "This just like King Kong!" He said excitedly. "See, we're stranded here on this deserted island an' this giant monster is living on it" He explained to them with eagerness in his eyes. Charlie was too busy in his own imagination that he nearly tripped over a tree root.

"See, we're stranded here on this deserted island an' this giant monster is living on it" the boy said. Goodwin looked down at the ground while walking. He turned and watched him almost trip over a tree root. It was a little fustrating for Goodwin, having to follow Jack around the island when he didn't really have a clue where he was going. He knew exactly where the front of the plane was. He watched it fall.
"I'm Goodwin" he said to the boy, again trying to move the conversation away from the monster in the jungle.

Kate eyeballed Charlie and Goodwin, as they talked. Charlie looked vaguely familiar, perhaps she'd seen him on the plane, and he he seemed excited to be alive. She supposed they all should be, but as the conversation kept turning to and away from what the strange noise in the jungle was, she couldn't help but shudder. She and Sawyer had just made it out of the trees when they were seemingly uprooted and crunched about behind them, though they hadn't seen it, you could feel it was something big, something frightening. Kate knew boars, or at least game like them, and though she said nothing, she was certain it was no boar. The worries were heaping up in Kate's head as they walked in the streaming sun.
She stopped a moment to retie her shoe , using Jack's leg to steady herself in the soft dirt as she did so. She pulled the backpack tight around her shoulders again and stood up. She looked around at the jungle taking it all in, piecing this rather large puzzle together as best she could, she decided she very much agreed with Charlie, she wasn't too keen on sleeping in the jungle. She picked up their pacing, hoping at her urging the boys might move faster. A slight desperation to reach the cockpit was washing over her.

Jack and Kate were walking behind after Kate had stopped to tie her shoe, but she picked up the pace as talk of the monster continued. Jack pushed forward with her and they continued to walk through the dense foliage. Jack was pushing away a few particularly resistant branches when he looked up and saw that they had come across what seemed to be at least a slightly more manageable path. "Much better," he uttered under his breath. Of course the path ended a hundred or so feet later and Jack cursed under his breath as they pushed back into deep jungle.
He wasn't sure how many deadly bugs had bitten him so far on this trip, but had a feeling the number stood around two hundred. Still he pressed on. The clothing and suitcases were becoming strewn about more closely together. "We must be like, halfway, I'm guessing? Seems a lot of the cargo area landed here."
He put his hand on Kate's back, helping her through the jungle and closer to their united goal.

Charlie's face fell slightly when he realized that no one was very enthusiastic about his idea of King Kong. It was probably not the time to be saying jokes. Although Charlie thought that someone needed to brighten things up a bit, even if they did just survive a horrible plane crash. "Charlie" He replied to Goodwin, who didn't seem to take much interest in the mysterious monster inside the jungle. He continued to move branches out of his way and shoo bugs off himself. One thing was for sure, they were getting much farther into the jungle.
Looking at some of the clothing laying around, Charlie's gaze wandered onto Kate. He noticed that she was eying him like she had seen him before. His face brightened up. "I look familiar don't I?" He said trying to hide the excitement in his voice. He had been waiting for long time for someone to finally realize that he was in a band. "You all everybody....you all everybody" He sang in a high voice, waiting to see her expression.

As soon as Charlie asked if he looked familiar Kate started putting the pieces together and smiled as he began to sing "You all everybody...you all everybody." She loved that song, and it brought back a flood of tangled memories, and they were mostly good ones. She squinted a the man slightly to her left as they pushed trough the dense foliage. Kate's back was starting to ache and sunburn was beginning to creep across all of her exposed skin, but Charlie's light nature was helping to alleviate those grievances.
" You like Driveshaft too?" she said softly as she smiled. " That's one of my favorite songs." She sang a bit along with him, laughing as they continued their walk. She picked up a few odds and ends from the luggage strew about the damp jungle floor and stuffed them in her back pack. She found a hat, a deck of cards, a dog collar, and a small princess doll. She had no idea what she'd do with any of those things, but anything might come in handy, or at least pass the time until they were rescued. She hoped if someone had found the things she'd lost in the crash, that they might return them to her, or even be willing to trade, but that was a small hope if any. She focused on the trail ahead and began to sing again with Charlie, a little louder and a bit more excitedly.

Jack was walking along the trail they had been travailing along when he heard singing coming from behind him. He had one thing and one thing only on his mind at the moment. Rescue. The grating, annoying, terrible song was too soon recognizable. Some one hit wonder crap song from the nineties. He turned around and snapped at the singing pair quickly. "Hey! We'll make better time if we're not wasting energy."
He turned around and immediately felt bad about yelling. A piece of him realized he was jealous Kate was having fun with someone other than him, which was crazy considering they had known each other for all of what? Two days now? Still, he had to admit every time he looked near her he took a moment to enjoy her curves, and the way she moved and seemingly bounced as she walked along.
The thought made him smile and his mood lightened. The other two were seemingly silenced by his outburst, but now he took it up, quietly at first. "You all everybody... You all everybody..."

"You all everybody... You all everybody..." Goodwin heard Jack singing softly. 'Oh crap' he thought to himself. He hadn't a clue what song they were singing, and if it was a really popular one, his cover might take a hit. It was a while since he had been allowed to leave the island. Maybe if heard more than the one line, he would be able to get something if he was lucky.
Goodwin walked on, trying to make sure he didn't get dragged in to the singing.

Charlie grinned the moment Kate realized the song. Maybe now he would get some recognition of some sort. Not just known as the blonde short guy. "No need to ask, I'll sign some autogra-" He said but then suddenly stopped. "Well of course I like Driveshaft! I'm the in band!" He defended himself feeling a bit disappointed. "You know...Charlie, the bassist" He seemed desperate now for any of them to remember. Too bad this caused them to stop singing You All Everybody.
Charlie was taken aback by Jack's yelling. He couldn't blame the guy though it was humid, hot, and they were stuck on an island. Charlie then turned to glance at Goodwin to see if he knew the song. It seemed that he didn't. Charlie wasn't suspicious though, maybe the older folks listened to some different kind of music. At the moment, Charlie wasn't in the mood to sing anymore. Yes, he was a tad grumpy from the fact that no one recognized him.
"How much farther?" He asked wanting to change the subject now. His mood changing from disappointment to eagerness.

"How much farther?" Charlie asked.
"Shouldn't be much farther. Goodwin said, turning to Jack. Where did you see the front end land again, Jack?

"I didn't exactly, I just know it was this general direction. I mean, Kate's the one who said she can track after all, I've just been following the debris, it seemed like a good plan at the-" Jack stopped talking suddenly as it appeared. Just as they had made the turn, there it was, sitting in front of him. The front of the plane, from the tip to maybe eight rows back or so.
"Well then, there ya go. Shall we?" Jack smiled at Goodwin and continued moving forward, pausing only momentarily when the putrid smell emitting from the plane section hit him like a wall.
